Instructions For Patients After Biomechanical Taping
1
Tape has been applied to your feet (foot) to change the way you walk and the way your feet (foot) respond to ground reactive forces.
2
The tape is only effective while it is on your feet (foot) and it no longer has any effect after it is removed. You should leave it in place for three days. If your symptoms change in response to the tape, then we can change your symptoms by changing the way you walk and the way your feet respond to ground reactive forces. In most cases, this is preferable because it does not necessitate the use of medications or surgery.
3
The tape is made of cloth and will stretch. It will be tight today and will be more comfortable by tomorrow. Try to ignore the feeling of the tape and concentrate on your presenting symptoms. You must be a careful observer. Look for changes in intensity, frequency, duration or character or pain.
4
Do not wear plastic bags over your feet while bathing, as it is very dangerous on a wet surface. You may shower as usual and get the tape wet. Allow approximately 15 minutes to dry each foot with a blow dryer.
5
As stated earlier, the tape is to be removed in approximately three days. On that day, simply remove it slowly after bathing. After it has been removed, gently cleanse the area(s) with rubbing alcohol to remove any residual adhesive. Do not use any creams, lotions or powders for 24 hours because the adhesive is very occlusive and your skin needs exposure to air.
Watch For The Following Warning Signs
1
Burning pain. Some people are allergic to adhesives. If you feel that you are having a reaction to the adhesive on your skin, remove the tape immediately and use rubbing alcohol to remove the adhesive. Then soak your feet in warm soapy water for 10 minutes. If the burning pain does not go away in 30 minutes or you notice a worsening of symptoms, call Dr. Sol.
If you experience any problems associated with the tape or adhesive, please call Dr. Sol at 635-7700 and follow the automated instructions which will instruct you to press 1 for emergency and leave a detailed message (including your phone number). After you hang-up, the computer will begin searching for Dr. Sol to replay your message. After hearing your message, he will call you back at the number you leave.
